Basic Service

A small investment in GOOD advice can save you a lot of money.

Comfort Geeks have nothing to sell but good advice. Our standard service is usually all it takes. But sometimes the issue may be more complicated.

Standard Geek Analysis:

  • Room-by-room Load Calculations to determine the design target airflows at each register.
  • Room-by-room Airflow Measurement to determine actual airflow at each register.
  • Air Balance Analysis which compares actual airflows to target airflows to determine system air balance (which rooms are getting too much or not enough air).
  • Static Pressure Across Fan Measurement to determine how hard the fan is working to move air through the duct system.
  • Detailed Visual Inspection of energy features and HVAC system.
  • A detailed Final Report that summarizes the results and findings of all of the above tests and inspections and a detailed List of Recommendations to solve any problems that were discovered. It includes a list of HVAC contractors that we have trained on how and why our recommendations will make your house more comfortable and access to the Comfort Geek website for continued support.

Duct Leakage Testing

Did you know that you are heating and cooling your attic?
The average household in California has ducts that leak 30% to the outside.*

To find out if this is the case and how much conditioned air is escaping into your attic, a Duct Leakage Test may be required.

  • Duct Leakage Test – We pressurize the duct system with a very sophisticated device that measures how much air escapes from the ducts when they are under pressure. Using a theatrical fog machine we can also locate and identify leaks making them much easier to seal.

Blower Door Test

It’s always important to be a good neighbor . . .
But that should not include heating and cooling the neighborhood.

All homes leak conditioned air to the outside. To find out how much air is escaping from your home, your Comfort Geek can perform a Blower Door Test.

Even with your doors and windows tightly closed, there are significant air leaks in your home. These leaks occur through outlets, light switches, plumbing penetrations, exhaust fans, behind cabinets, around stairs and in many other hidden areas.

  • Blower Door Test - We pressurize the house with a very sophisticated device that measures how much air escapes from the house (infiltration). Using a special “air current tester” we can also locate and identify leaks making them much easier to seal.

Data Logger Analysis

When they encounter challenging homes, Comfort Geeks will place precise temperature gathering sensors called data loggers around your home. We get an excellent picture of the room by room temperature changes you are experiencing.

Really tough comfort issues require really sophisticated temperature analysis.

  • Data Logger Analysis – This is the ultimate comfort diagnostic test. Using up to twelve small temperature dataloggers placed strategically around the house we can determine exactly when and by how much the temperature in different parts of the house stray from a comfortable level. This analysis can find problems that no other diagnostic test can.
